Hello,
I have a 48 cub, came with a 3 blade belly mower with all the brackets. I was told by a Woods dealer it was an International mower deck. Anybody have any info on these decks? I have mostly seen Woods decks. I plan on using it with the cub and have all the brackets. It will need belts tho. The cub is in great condition except the motor. It is low on power at this time. I have rebuilt the carb and will be checking compression next and go from there. I have read that the cub isn't the best to use with a bigger mower deck in tall grass. I will not be using it for tall brush or tall grass. If I have to rebuild I think I will get domed pistons. Are there any camshaft upgrades? Thank you for any information on the cub and the deck.
Best Regards,
Russ

Re: International belly mower for a cub
the mower you have sounds like a C-3 mower in what is clasified as a "finish" mower. It is not designed to handle tall brush or high grass and it puts too much load on the cub. ( been there done that)
The best all around mowers for the the cub doing lawn and jungle are the woods 42 and the c-2 mowers. The flair or mott mower is also nice but some people do not like it becuase it does not mulch the grass.

before you do the compression check adjust the valves. When you do the compression check remove all of the plugs and open the cab all of the way remove the air filter hose or remove the carb completely.
The only load you want to check is the load caused by compression of the one cylinder you are testing - not the load from other cylinders and not load fron the restricted by the carb.

Probably hard to find now but there were mulching shields available for the Mott. They are very dirty mowers though when mounted underneath.

Thank you. I will adjust the valves 1st. Looking at the various manuals it does look like a C-3. I will not be mowing tall grass or brush with it.

Cam shaft was changed in 1968.

Re: International belly mower for a cub
I have a C-3 on a 68 Cub Lo-Boy it mows really well, It does load the tractor pretty well, I mow in 2nd gear with about half throttle which seems to be the sweet spot I go up one notch in heavy going if needed. The tractor will let you know where it wants to run if you listen to it, any faster and my mower makes all kinds of racket, probably a balance issue, any slower and it just struggles. Keep it greased and the blades good and sharp and it will reward you with a beautiful cut. My idler pulleys are not sealed really well and have no grease fittings, I pull them every 3rd cut and oil them a little bit and they turn smooth, you don't need anything stealing power from the PTO. Be well TJ

Sounds like an old Danco mower -----they are similar to Woods---just hard to get parts for IF needed. IH bought danco out.

IH didn't buy Danco, only bought equipment from them. Danco evidently became part of Hesston.

Re: International belly mower for a cub
the mower works much easier if you use the 6.5" pulley on the PTO, it came with an 8" that puts a heavier load on the cub
