carbon

Postby Rubee » Mon Dec 19, 2005 1:00 pm

My cub runs good but seems to put out carbon soot from the exhaust. Can't really see it in the air but it falls onto the hood. Does this indicate any problems that I can correct easily? Thanks, Rubee

Rubee - run a can of Sea Foam through it. That should help clean up the carbon. You should be able to find it at NAPA and several other places. Get the engine good an warm and pour it a little at a time into the intake of the carb (air cleaner hose removed) running at about half throttle. Pour slowly so as not to kill the engine. It will smoke like the dickens for a while but it will help clean up the carbon.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Thanks for the advise BigDog. I'll do it. Sounds like a good yearly "spring tonic" to clean her out.

Is Seafoam the modern equivalent of Casite?

Hey Jack...Seafoam seems to work where other so-called internal engine cleaners fail. My very first experience with Seafoam was on a 23 year old Snapper push mower. Everytime the mower would be pushed on a side of a hill...the engine would die out. 2 ounces of Seafoam in the gas...and it was GONE...No carburetor rebuild was necessary. Seafoam also stabilizes your gas...so adding it to FRESH gas will prolong its life for 2 FULL YEARS!

To some degree I think that is normal. H2O being produced through combustion picks up carbon from the exhaust and falls back onto your hood. After your good and warmed up its most likely goes away. Its more noticeable this time of yr.

I tend to agree Bill, I noticed a little bit too. I don't really worry about it though. Maybe I will try the seafoam just to see the difference
