Final drive reversal
Is it my imagination or did I see in a post somewhere that the final drives can be reversed?? Back holes have been totally trashed w/modified "plugs" to fill in unsuccessfully! front holes still appear to have original corks still in them?? Casting are also broken so helicoiling is not an option! Open for any and all options Dusty B

Re: Final drive reversal
Yes you can swap sides as long as it is not a Loboy. Axles will not swap.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Yep! The housings are the same. The only differences are the axles and differential shafts, which can be swapped. Actually, unless you use the fertilizer drive on the right final axle, I believe you only need to change the differential shafts. Oh, and turn the brakes around, so the pull rod goes out the other direction.

Re: Final drive reversal
Hi,
It's a good idea to replace the oil seals on the upper shaft, whenever you have a final drive off a Cub, if the seals haven't been replaced lately.
The brake lining may need replacing too.
When putting a final drive on the Cub, use a light, and check to see that the brake pin goes into the small hole at both ends of it.
You can break the transmission, right side extension, or final drive casting, if you tighten the bolts with the pin out of the holes.
The final drive should go fully into place, without using the bolts to pull the 2 parts together.
It may be tight on the alignment pins though, check that they are there, there should be 1 pin at the top and 1 pin at the bottom of the mounting.
Below is a post by Dale Finch showing removing a final drive, and repairing a brake.
This post shows the 1st style of brake. The 2nd style is different.
Maybe you have had them off before.

There is another oil seal, behind the brake drum, in the final drive.
TM Tractor has new oil seals.
Below is a pic of the right side brake, showing the brake pin. It is the newer style of brake in the pic.
The 1st style brake has a pin too.
The 2nd pic shows the alignment pins, on the left side.
