Can the brakes and clutch me made less.... touchy?
Is it possible to adjust the brakes in these cubs so they grab harder or is the squealy push hard to stop just how they always worked. Also one of mine has a somwhat decent clutch release but the other you literally have the bottom inch of the clutch pedals travel for shifting and starting off so it is hare to ease off the clutch. The older one has quite a bit more travel so the clutch is nicer, although they both have the squealy brakes :p

Brakes always squeal, but a couple of ideas...adjust them up as high as possible...1” free travel. I bought some aftermarket ones that had regular brake lining type material and they don’t squeal and seem to function just fine. Came from Iowa farm supply.
The clutch is probably grabby because either or both the flywheel and pressure plate are too rough. Correct finish is a grind not lathe turn.

I mean it's very possible the clutch plates are super worn down.... haha. I shall try your advice with the brakes

Hi,
You can look in the holes in the final drives, where the brake rods go in, and see if it looks oily or dirty.
Use a good light to see in the holes.
There are the same size holes on the rear of the final drives also.
Look in the rear holes too.
The brakes are in areas between the transmission, and final drive oils.
There should be no oil where the brakes are, it should be dry there.
If there is oil on the brakes, they won't work much.
If the area is oily, the oil seals are leaking, and need replacing, unless the transmission oil is too high.
If the trans oil is too high, it can come out the seals, onto the brakes.
Water from rain, or condensation inside the trans over time can raise the oil level.
Check or change the transmission oil.
It should be filled only to the level of the level plug hole, low on the left side of the trans.
The trans holds 3 1/2 Pints of oil.

I have to admit, my first thought when I read your title was, “well, maybe try bringing them flowers once in a while...”

Mine was full to the bottom of the fill plug (would hold no more)
I drained it today... OVER 2 gallons came out
no wonder there were leaks everywhere ..

Hi,
That sounds like there was a lot of oil in the transmission KenBTexas.
If the oil looked dirty, or had water in it, people on here have said you can put in 3 1/2 Pints of kerosene, no oil, and drive the Cub around for 5 minutes. Then drain the kerosene, and put in the oil.
When the trans oil is at the right level, you could clean the area some, so you can see if there are any leaks, as you use the Cub.
If oil leaks onto the brakes, or runs out the drain hole under the brakes, or oil runs out the larger holes for the brake rods, when the oil is at the right level, then the oil seals are leaking, and need replacing.
People on here have said that the drain holes under the brakes get plugged with dirt, or goop, so the leaking oil runs out the brake rod holes, I guess.

Re: Can the brakes and clutch me made less.... touchy?
yeah, it was full of water and oil.. (as I said to the top)
I left it to drain over night.
Will put some kerosene in today, drain and fill again this evening.
Then we clean it up and look for proper leaks.
Thanks
