Sticky snow

Postby allenlook » Fri Dec 16, 2005 5:42 pm

The wet stuff was really sticking to the plow today, and it made it a little harder to plow the long drive, even with the plow slanted all the way to the right...

The blade on my 54A is of course rusty - do you guys keep the face of the blade painted or sanded or waxed or otherwise slippery to keep the snow from sticking?

I was thinking of coating it with KROIL, but I'm all out... :)

Possum fat works good!

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Allen. I use stuff called "EZ-SLIDE". Comes in a spray can from places like Tractor Supply Co. It's graphite based and looks like gray paint. Also, you can use it on all your earth & grass cutting implements ........

Note: Also, goes by the name of "Slip Plate".

Snow sticking to blade

Postby meandmydeere » Sat Dec 17, 2005 9:43 am

I was having the same problem until I decided a good heavy coat of paint would do the trick. Since it is my brothers Cub, I thought about painting it green. Then I thought maybe yellow would look better. Then I even thought about green with 2 yellow circles like the wheels on a John Deere.
I painted it white with rust oleum. 2 coats. I just hated to waste that good paint on a red tractor.
Sure makes the snow roll off the blade now. Not a bit sticks to it either.

All my snow shovels have been in wood stove till hot and the removed and rubbed with a block of canning wax. Nothing sticks, wet snow or dry snow.
Can't really do that with a plow blade though.

i think your on the wrong site. maybe your brother should help you a little pick a better work tractor. besides where's the plow for the deere. seems there's only one real work tractor you know can do the job.

Really I was just checking to see who was awake!!! And my John Deeres will push snow. I just hate to use a workhorse tractor to do "light" work like plowing snow!!!

I must be kinda lazy I just hit the blade with a spray coat of PAM cooking spray and thats it !! We did that too trough forms at a steel mill I worked at for 30 years. I have been doing that for almost 20 years and my blade still looks good with a few spots of rust but not bad at all...RustyNuts

Cheatin' Ex

Postby allenlook » Sun Dec 18, 2005 10:29 am

Well, my cheatin' ex is named Pam, and there's been days I wouldn't have minded applying her to the front of the plow and seeing how much snow would stick :D

Idea...

Postby allenlook » Sun Dec 18, 2005 10:32 am

You know, I have a pile of old sleds from the kids sitting next to the tractor, and they (by design) slide on snow and vice versa...

I'm wondering if I can use one of the old flexible flyers and somehow get it to form to the face of my plow - that would be a semi-permanent solution to the whole shebang.

(wheels turning in head) (stupid ideas forming) (bad things about to happen)...
