Gasket Sets

Postby Bob Grieb » Wed Dec 14, 2005 11:04 am

I have removed the head, manifold, pan, valve cover and associated radiator items from my Cub. Does anyone know where I can get a gasket set that is reasonably priced? I went to the local NAPA store yesterday and they said I would need a gasket set part number to place an order.
I have no idea if there is a set part number. I do have a parts manual but it shows individual gaskets.

Thanks

Bob

Depending on the parts book you have the gasket sets are usually listed at the front or back of the engine section. Here is an example from TC-37F:

Daniel

Thanks for the information. I feel like saying "Duh". I have the manual you are referring to and this morning I sat down and went from page to page and listed the various gaskets I would need. Then I read your posting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the info. I will call the NAPA dealer and see about cost.

Thanks again :D :D :D

Try another parts store. I purchased a full gasket set several months ago. I just told the parts man I needed a full gasket set for a farm tractor, a International Cub, C60 engine.

If you are doing an overhaul, purchase the full gasket or overhaul set. Cheaper than purchasing the individual gaskets.

Also, shop around for price. There was $30.00 difference between the two parts stores in my hometown.

I take it Jim that this is a NAPA number.
If it's been broken I did it.
If its not broken wait till I touch it.

Federated Auto Parts: List price $84.36. Sale price $48.00.

Just looked up the receipt. Only shows a special order number.

First number I posted is the one off the box I have from NAPA. The second one is the number off there web site. Its has a prefix but same set. NAPA is the highest place in my town but the only place who can get it at all and then its over night. Lets have some web address's and 800 numbers of these cheaper places.

I tried calling NAPA twice tday and talked with different people and the both told me that NAPA did not handle the gasket set. I even challenged them on the fact that others I have talked with have bought them.

I ended up buying an overhaul set from Parts Plus for $66. I guess that is not too bad.

I have lost faith in my local NAPA store. I am going to call them in the morning with the number that Jim gave me just to see what they say

Thanks for all the help

Bob

Tell them you can order it online from NAPA and see what they say. Remember if it's like around here these parts guys don't know a Farmall from a John Deere. Unless there daddy has a JD lawn tractor. They are all in there 20's and just went to work Monday.

Jim,

I guess we are just lucky here. Gary, the main counter person at NAPA and the only one who is there for more than two consecutive visits has been at it ever since his high school days. He is in his late 60's now. I expect him and his ever present stub of a cigar to be gone soon. He will be missed.

Yep we got one old man here at the NAPA. (Not as old as me)I called and ask for a rear seal for a Cub and he said it was not listed. I said you know those old paper catalogs you got in the back? He said yep. I said you want to go look it up are do you want me to give you the number? He said you got the number? I gave it to him and he entered it into his computer and said its in the warehouse in Charlotte I will have it tomorrow. He usually comes by the shop every monday and I just show him the old seal and he interchanges the number if needed and brings it out in the afternoon.
