New tires

Postby Rusty red » Wed May 06, 2020 7:06 pm

My new front tires arrived for my cub earlier. Now to sandblast rims while they are off and shoot some paint on them.

Luckily I had some "spares" laying behind the shop so I could move it out of the shop.

While blasting I noticed a few pinholes in one rim next to the valve stem hole. Should I attempt to mig weld them shut or just suck it up and make a trip to JP's and get a different one.

You can fill it with an epoxy like JB Weld.

I've had good luck with brazing rusted rims as long as the holes aren't too large otherwise I mig them. TJ

What does the rest of the rim look like?

If it's only the one small rusted, rough area, epoxy. If you have a lot of rust, rough areas, consider an replacement rim. Small rust/rough areas can be cleaned with a sander.
I have an excuse. CRS.

The worst spot was around the valve stem. The rest of it was mostly just flakey rust. I plan on getting some epoxy tomorrow and fill around the stem hole.
