Carburetor Warped

I’m tore my carb down and cleaned and am going to replace gaskets. Upon putting the two halves together without the gasket I’ve determined my carb is warped. I’ve read in several other threads that this is fixable, but haven’t found anywhere explaining how. Is this something I can do myself? And also how could just a new gasket be enough to overcome it and seal properly still? Thanks

The flattening requires a steel/Al plate that has some machining done on it. If you go to the "how to" sub forum, you can find several threads on flattening. It might be easier to send it to someone that does them rather than making the jig for one carb repair.
Edit: Lurker Carl has an older post near the top about flattening by inserting nuts between the halves at the bolt locations. I've never done it that way, but it doesn't require a jig to do it.

Don’t overtorque the screws when you reinstall. Remember INCH pounds not FOOT pounds. So guys think these tractors are dump truck and really “wrench” down things. The reason the carb is warps is that the float setting was incorrect and the previous owner thought if I just cram these two halves together I’ll stop the leak! Well we all know that’s not the correct solution. Fix the float level and the fuel won’t get that high.

I don’t blame you I blame the lack of knowledge that we try to correct here on this great website everyday.

I have fixed a couple of these carbs with a vise and two pieces of wood (first with pine then move up to harder wood) but you have to be careful and remember this is aluminum and can crack if you are over do it.

The “safe “ plan would be to have it milled or machined down and you might get away with a flat file and a straightedge.

Most importantly get the float set to the correct level and use a thicker cork gasket and don’t over torque.
