cub exhaust conversion

Postby Delaero » Fri Oct 11, 2019 9:14 am

Can a cub be converted from a vertical to a horizontal exhaust. If so, is there a kit available or what parts would be needed? Any helpful information would be helpful.

Well, it can be done but it won't be cheap. All you need is the 90 elbow for the manifold and a horizontal exhaust pipe and muffler (that's the not cheap part).

What about the hole in the hood?

Welcome to the forum
You can check with one of the site sponsors at the bottom of the page for parts.
TM Tractor Parts has a great photo gallery of parts as originally supplied, plus a vast inventory of parts available.
There is a board here called The Vine, you can advertise on it for parts wanted or for sale.
You will find many of the forum members are also sources of used parts, good advice and always willing to do what is required to keep another Cub alive and kicking.
There is also a board for "Introduce Yourself", it is not necessary, but I found the Welcome message from a senior member to contain a lot of good information.

So far, Paul and Ringo have arrived. John and George were supposed to follow ages ago, but apparently have gone awol. Long story.

I plan to call about a Cub I just found on CL shortly. It’s a good price, but maybe too badly beaten up even at that.
If it somehow finds its way home with me, there will be an underslung exhaust available. It has been converted, and I would plan on converting it back

There’s a lot of “ifs” in there.
But to answer your question, yes, they can be converted pretty easily. It’s just that the parts are expensive.

Don't forget to add the muffler bracket that mounts on the transmission. And you may have to make up a new fuel line to avoid the exhaust pipe.

Thanks for the input. I haven't quite figured out what to do with hole just yet. What ever it is; I don't want to do anything permanent.

Hi,
Below is a page from the Cub parts manual showing the parts of the under axle exhaust system.

http://www.farmallcub.info/manuals/cub_ ... 012-16.jpg

Below is a listing at TM Tractor for the gas line for use with the under axle exhaust system.
It is bent differently than the line for the vertical exhaust, to clear the exhaust pipe. There are pics there also.
There should be some space between the gas line, and the exhaust pipe. :)
