I recently installed the new fuel shutoff and glass bowl fuel strainer assembly on my cub and within a few months it began leaking. When I removed it for inspection I found that the shutoff stem broke through the thin metal internal seat when shut off with just hand pressure. The resulting gap resulted in leaking fuel.
Was this just a bad part or is there a better alternative?

Re: Fuel shutoff issue
Was it OEM or aftermarket? Might be worth contacting the seller. That's not something I've heard of before.

That's a new one on me, too! The seller may want to know about it.

Re: Fuel shutoff issue
I called TM tractors today where I bought the part and spoke with the gentleman about the bad part. He confirmed that other customers had similar problems and there was no replacement available.
I found on the forum (March 30, 2019) that an OEM looking version was available from Steiner which I ordered.

Are they going to refund your money since it is defective>
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Did you ask for one? I would have expected TM to handle that better.tim52 wrote:No refund was offered.

I agree with Bob. if others have the same problem, they should make it good.

Re: Fuel shutoff issue
Which one did you buy? Last time I checked they only had the original style(expensive) one. Just a few days before that they had a cheaper one available that’s no longer there. At least last time I checked a couple weeks ago

I bought the $35 one from Steiner that looks like the original with the L-shaped handle.

Re: Fuel shutoff issue
I chose to not directly ask for a refund and none was offered.
In the larger scheme of things this was not a big deal to me, I was happy to hopefully find a better quality part to get my #552 cub running again.

Re: Fuel shutoff issue
Hello,
In a related note:
I have a 1968 Cub Lo Boy. I created an aux gas tank that I added a small small sediment bowl. Now everything is used and fab'd to make it work. The sediment bowl did not have a shut off valve. It was replaced by a screw through the inside lock nut tightened into the thread for a reason similar to what you are describing.
Here is what I did. I took the 2 bolts out, and installed a matching thread bolt and wrapped it with pipe tape. I then screwed it into the sediment bowl. I had leaking problems as well. So now I have no leaks but the bowl does not shut off. However, I am not sure if I need a shut off.
Just what I am doing,
Richard
