Has anyone a ebay link to lower bronze bushing.
FF-1314-2 or actual oem one. The one on the bronze bushing website is going to be too expensive with shipping and all that.

Andy, thanks for the above link. I will be sure to use it in the near future but this part is not up there.

Is this the bushing you need? Should be a common bushing, available at your local hardware stores and you local tractor dealerships.
I have an excuse. CRS.

The bushing is less than $5 US. How much is the shipping to Ireland?

Thanks all, the engineering manager at work said he could make for me later in the week on the lathe so I guess that will do.

Bronze bushing minimum purchase is 20$ and don't ship to ireland. I can use a postal service that gives me a usa post box and they will deliver to ireland. Cheapest shipping from bronze bushing website was 13$ and then €20 euro to get it to ireland. Not worth it on a cheap part that I should be able to get here somewhere. I need to order lower seal now too and wait for all parts to come. Slowly I will get there.

Something to keep in mind. eBay wants a street address to deliver to. They don’t like P.O.Boxes.

Hello everyone.
The months are flying by.
Today was the very first day I tried to start the cub after nearly a year I first touching it. Enigine oil is primed and all. Still a lot to do.
12 volt conversion all wired up correctly I think based on other YouTube videos.
On first attempt the starter does nothing. Doesn't make any attempt to turn just silence. The voltmeter that I put on the Dash instead of ampmeter reads 12 volts when the switch is on. The wire going into starter reads 12 volts. I have disassembled and cleaned the starter switch and no difference. What should be my next step? Remove the starter and disassemble and look for something obvious or should I try something else?
I saw another thread here to check the ground cable is connected sufficiently so I will move the battery ground wire to closer area as a just in case. Thanks. Liam.

Does the starter turnover if you put jumper cables directly to ground and the starter lug under the switch?

Hi,
It could be having a ground problem.
You could try connecting automotive jumper cables to the battery, and to the starter, and see if the starter works.
The brushes and bushings in the starter could be wornout, and need replacing.
If the French Cub starter has a removable band on it, you could remove it and look in with a light.
The commutator could be dirty and need cleaning.
For a Delco starter, the Cub operator's manual says use fine sandpaper on the commutator.
It should be shiny, not dirty.
Or the starter might have an electrical problem, and not work.

Liam, my French Cub starter was partially seized and the brushes were stuck in their holders so not contacting the commutator segments properly. A quick strip, clean up, lubricate and it works great now. Andy.

Thanks guys, I will test above over the weekend .
It doesn't have a removable band installed so probably very dirty inside. I will try the easier stuff first before I go taking it apart. Watched a few videos so know what ye are talking about now.

Just a thought that l didn't see mentioned. Does the starter have a good ground? I've seen posts where members did such a good job of painting, there was no bare metal to mount to, therefore no ground connection. I remembered that when installing a nice new shiny battery box. I scraped paint around the bottom of the mount holes and around the ground connection. I hated to do it, but otherwise no good connection.
Why is there never enough time to do the job right, but always enough time to do it over. :?:

The results are in:
Disassembled starter and it was seized solid with rust. I don't think restoring the starter is a option is achievable with the way it looks.
Any cheapish alternatives or is the other tractors I could take a starter from. Does the cub starter only fit the cub and no other type will fit? The rest of the system is 12 volts now so I should look at a 12 volt one now.
Fun times.

DB Electrical. Amazon usually has the 6 and 12 volt Cub starters from DB Electrical at a decent price. I don't know about shipping and taxes.

Be sure to save you old starter. Never know when you will need parts.

You can use a 6 volt starter with a 12 volt electrical system.

Hi,
Too bad the starter won't work.

I think only a Cub starter fits a Cub.

Below are pics from TM Tractor of the 6 volt Delco starter the USA Cubs use.
It uses a rod to the dash that you pull.
People use them with 12 volts, like Eugene said above. They turn faster than with 6 volts.

http://www.tmtractor.com/tm-tractor/gel/crank6v_001.htm

The 6 volt starter needs the lever in the listing below.

http://www.tmtractor.com/new/el/347fp.htm

Below is the rod used with the 6 volt starter.

http://www.tmtractor.com/new/el/1628fp.htm

IH changed Cubs to 12 volts during 1964.
Below are pics from TM Tractor of the 12 volt starter.
It doesn't have any switch on top of it, and doesn't use a rod to the dash.
IH used a push button switch on the dash with it for years.
Then they changed to a key switch with a solenoid.
It uses different battery cables than the 6 volt starter.
But it may not fit on a 6 volt Cub, it is a bigger diameter than a 6 volt starter.
They have said on here that IH changed the engine block some, to make more room for the bigger diameter starter. :)
