Hello everyone,
I've been looking at finding an outer shoe for my cub 22 sickle mower. Currently the outer wear shoe is missing. I see there are a few reproductions available but by the time I would be done it would cost me another $50. I've already put more money into my cub than I care to admit during a complete restoration inside and out.
Frankly, I was thinking of trying to make one because basically they are a curved piece of steel with a post for the mounting bolt. Does anyone know the rough dimensions? They don't look hard to make except for getting the diameter of the hook right on the front end. I can do some fitting to get that right.
Thanks in advance. I'm fairly new to the forum but quickly realized how great this community is.

A piece of leaf spring close to the right size would wear a long time. (spring steel)

Hi,
The Cub looks really good in your pic.
I'm not sure which part you mean.
Below is a listing for a new outer shoe sole. The price is not high, I think.
The outer shoe is the large piece the sole bolts onto.
https://www.cuttingcomponents.com/parts ... 6-045.html
It has to have a special bolt for the sole, the bolt has a wide flat head that fits into the slot in the shoe, the bolt can be moved up and down in the slot for height adjustment.

Re: Cub 22 sickle mower outer shoe
A leaf spring is a good idea. I was trying to describe the wear strip that rides along the ground and can set the height of the cut at the same time. John2189 was nice enough to assist me so I think I have it covered. Thank you Frank (Cubfriend) and Glen for your advice. The people on this forum have been fantastic to talk with.
I have some pictures of the cub with attachments I can try to upload but have been hamstrung by the file size limitation. I will do some tinkering and see if I can get it to work. As for the tractor history it was used at a greenhouse and vegetable farm by my grandfather here in western Wisconsin.

Re: Cub 22 sickle mower outer shoe
Got one from the local IH-Case dealer. Don't recall cost...probably because it was so high. But it was an exact fit and after a few years does the job just fine.
