Chinese carb surprise
Opened one up at the Bash. It had a plastic float. The needle had four ribs parallel to the length and a spring that hooked onto the float hinge tab. All of the other ones I've seen had brass floats and viton tipped needles.

Re: Chinese carb surprise
Bob, in your opinion, was this a good surprise or a bad surprise? I think the needle part sounds good, but I'm not sold on plastic floats. At least the ones I've come across. (no good way to adjust them)

Re: Chinese carb surprise
The hinge was a thicker gauge steel (?), not brass and I was concerned that when I adjusted the float height I might cause a leak. That didn't happen, but could be a problem depending on how the plastic float is attached to the hinge.

Re: Chinese carb surprise
that is more common on newer carbs, make it as cheap as possible, had a carb the other day when I opened it up all the guts were molded together , the gasket, float, needle seat, etc was all part of a big chunk of plastic, no replaceable parts or adjustments could be done

Re: Chinese carb surprise
After trying to rebuild my original, I bought a $50 on ebay to try. Hooked it up. No mods. Runs like a top. I was pleasantly surprised. Now I can get the original rebuilt the right way and will have it when the cheapo craps out.

Bob, I saw your topic title and thought maybe you were sharing a recipe for a spicy asian noodle dish.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: Chinese carb surprise
The question l have is, will the plastic float hold up over time?
Given the problems with small engine carbs being eaten up by gasoline with ethanol in it, what kind of an affect might it have on a plastic float?
I guess time will tell, and l'm sure the good people on here will keep us posted.

Why is there never enough time to do the job right, but always enough time to do it over.
