Thanks for all of the replies, and the kind words. I have since found out that this tractor was purchased new by the grandfather of my neighbor. It has never left this property, always kept in a barn. I live in the original (Linsley) family farmhouse (1810), restored 3 years ago.
While I'm still inclined to make this Cub look like new again, I do appreciate the comments about leaving it in it's original clothes. I'll have to give it some thought. I also linked up with a couple of guys from our local Grange, they turned out to be "Cubologists" and are providing some much needed guidance.

Before you go rebuilding the carb. make sure the choke lever isn't put on upside down. You may be opening the choke when you think you're closing it. This happened to me once on a new (57) Cub.
