Farmall Cub powered ferry boat
I just watched the documentary “20,000 Miles on a Horse” about an equine trip from Argentina to Alaska.
https://www.amazon.com/000-Miles-Horse- ... B01DEH9CD6
The small ferry boat they used to cross the Missouri River was powered by a Cub... Not just an engine, but the better part of an entire tractor. My best guess was it was one of the three small cable ferries that cross the Missouri in Montana. These ferries were replaced by a state a few years ago, so I doubt the Cub is still in service, but it was neat to see nevertheless!

Thanks for that. It was a cool shot. It looks as it the clutch peddle was modified and some sort of level was put. It would have been cool to see how the cables were set up.

I would like to see the ferry, but too cheap to pay for the movie just to see the ferry.

If I had to guess, they just had a capstan head mounted in place of a rear wheel.

Re: Farmall Cub powered ferry boat
It looks nicely done. front axel removed using tool mount as a front support, have a hand lever to use the clutch, removed the steering shaft and cut the support.

UP TILL EARLY 1980'S THERE WAS A FERRY ACROSS THE MISSOURI RIVER WEST OF YANKTON S.DAKOTA BY NIOBRARA NEB. IT WOULD HAUL FOUR CARS AND WAS POWERED B AN H FARMALL BELOW THE DECK. WE CROSSED IT ONCE.

Re: Farmall Cub powered ferry boat
Here is a picture that shows a little more of the rear. Is that the "capstan" where the left wheel would be?

This is worthy of copying.
I’m sure it’s no speed demon but can you imagine this powering a houseboat on a lake?
Outboards built today have a lot of technological voodoo but for the community here this could be a simple to rig, run, and maintain option.
Pretty damned cool too especially if it was mounted in a vintage houseboat.
