Re: tst rear oil seal retainer repair.
If you have an active oil leak at the rear of the cub engine - its a pretty good bet the seal needs to be replaced.
Unless you have purchased the new retainer from IH $$$$, the old retainer will not fit the new seal that is specified for the cub engine.
Tim machines the seal housing to accept a readily available seal and corrects any straightness issues or pan bolt hole thread issues and ships the completed retainer with seal installed to you for a bargain price.
in short, I wouldn't split the cub to fix an oil leak at the rear without this reworked retainer and a new pan gasket in hand.
My 2 cents
Ron

Re: tst rear oil seal retainer repair.
I have been using a TST modified retainer in one of my cubs for several years and been happy with it. I am not sure if the problem is the seals are not the right size, or if that the retainer is pot metal and stretches and distorts over time. I have done some checking and measuring, and when I remove a worn out seal it is tight and has to be driven out, but if it clean all the crud off and put it back in, it is loose. I have measured a couple, and the hole for the seal will be the right size for the seals, but only right at the flange, as you measure further out, the hole gets wider, indicating the material has stretched. In addition to truing up the retainer, TST bores a hole in it for a different outer sized seal. I figure that in another 40 or 50 years we will see the same problem showing up again, but I do not figure to be around that long, since I am already past 70. And at $350 or so for a new retainer I have no intentions of going that rout.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
you are part of the problem!!!

I think I'm going to replace mine this year.. one thing I didn't do and should have when I had her all apart, planning on breaking her down again maybe before spring, this way I can do all the seals in the back half also

Re: tst rear oil seal retainer repair.
The seal number in it when i pulled apart is 360662 r91 and if i read my caliper right it measured 3.872. The reason im not sure is because before my grand father lost his life on this tractor he had a school rebuild it so not sure what they had done. Im not sure if this is the newer retainer , If so what seal would i use . Here is a picture of my retainer with part number Thanks Billy
