Check it while it is still easy to remedy. Yours wouldn't be the first one where a shop installed the camshaft but left out the plug.

As John mentioned, once that governor seal is in place, you can no longer see the marking on the gear for proper installation of the governor...they put the mark ONLY on the rear of the gear. I used a punch and made a small mark on the front of the gear that corresponded to the mark on the rear.

Brian
I built a crankshaft pulley remover and installer based on the dimensions in this thread: http://www.farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewto ... =1&t=85101. The two halves attach by 3/4 inch allthread and I use a 12 ton hydraulic jack to push against a 1/2 inch grade 8 bolt threaded into the crankshaft. The 3/4 inch holes are 6-1/2 inches apart to clear the pulley.
I made the plates from 3/4 inch thick steel, cutting them with a plasma cutter, then drilling the holes. The plate that the hydraulic press seats against is a bit wider as you saw in my picture earlier and also doubles as a pulley installer by drilling a 1/2 inch hole in the center and using various lengths of grade 8 bolts, nuts and washers to pull it back onto the crankshaft. The service manual advises to not tighten the front cover until the pulley is installed. This allows the seal to center on the pulley.
I'll take pictures of the complete setup and post in the future.

So I did a search on putting the wear ring on.. not much there. I figure I'm going to press it on with something just slightly bigger than the ring with some permatex on the old wear surface. Any thoughts?

This is a HOW TO that I followed. Worked pretty well.

Some of the sleeves come with the tool (shaped like a tin can) to seat the sleeve.

I think mine was from TM Tractors, and did not come with the tool. But you are right, Bob, I have also seen various wear sleeves WITH the tool.

One thing to keep in mind, measure the distance from a known point where the grooved area is, so when you are driving the wear sleeve on, you do not go deeper than the grooved area. That sleeve is not that wide, and I realized, after I had driven it all the way to the pulley shoulder, that it barely covered where the seal sat, and there's no way to "slide" it back out!

I used a piece of square tubing with couple holes drilled. Threaded rod, I put the pulley in the oven for about 45 minutes at 400 degrees. Started the pulley by hand and didn't take much effort tightening the nut pressing the pulley one. Worked great and was a easy to do.

So my wear ring will be sticking up beyond the bevel on the pulley shaft about 1/8" once it bottoms out. Is this going to be an issue? Is this normal? I ordered the kit from TM for a 47 Cub.
