Alternator quit charging

Postby ShawnAgne » Fri Jan 11, 2019 11:26 pm

When I fixed a radiator problem over thanksgiving weekend I pulled the hood, unhooked the lights, etc. to remove the radiator. After radiator was fixed put it all back on and together, started it back up and noticed the alternator isn't getting excited. Always worked before. Setup is a 3 wire with a light. Light comes on when I turn on the power, and light doesn't go off even when I run the engine all the way up. Tonight while I was hooking on the snow plow I unhooked the 2 other wires on the alternator (1 that goes to the light and the other that goes from the main stud back to the alternator) and the connections both appear to be good. Alternator is only a year old so I doubt it suddenly went bad.

Any idea where the issue may be?

does it have battery voltage on the wire at the alternator that feeds it?

There is voltage on the wire going from power switch to alternator that contains the checklight. As it comes on when switch is pulled

Well as strangely as it quit charging it started again. I think a connection was loose.
