small steel tube

Postby kylev » Sun Nov 06, 2005 10:33 pm

The small steel tube that goes on the side of the air filter housing on my cub is completely clogged up. I soaked it several nights in varsol with no success. I also tried using my air hose to blow it out but it is clogged to bad. Is there anything anyone can suggest to clean it out with? It is the small 1/4" or so steel tube that I am talking about. Anyone? Thanks alot....

Carb cleaner or vinegar.

Kyle:

Do what I did -- I bought some brake line (took the old one with me). My auto mechanic Ben has all kinds, he even cut it to the right length and flared both ends after we changed the threaded nuts to the new line.

I just came home and bent it to fit.

I gave up after about 3 or 4 days of soaking Ellie's original. Wasn't worth the bother. Hasn't been a bother since either :!:     :D

As George says a bit of "Warmaline" It is a steel line so even if it doesn't get red hot the crud will burn out without too much damage, then John*@'s twisting wire, or else a new line, just watch out for the nuts and olives. (No not the early evening drinks kind!)

I have had great success heating the lines with a small, hand held torch while blowing compressed air in one end. Stand clear of the relief end as not to get any of the crude in your eyes when it turns loose. 8)

Thanks for all the help. I tried air and carb cleaner. Next step is heating it. I think that might work. The line seems to be completely full of crud not just one spot.

Thanks

 My little trick for cleaning out pipes/tubes is spraying as much carb cleaner in them as they will hold. Then I put an old used speedometer cable in a electric hand drill and roto-root the cable in the liquid. Some times it takes awhile but it hasn`t failed me yet on cleaning out any substance that will break down.
Then came Bronson
