Plow bolts ???

Postby BullDAWG » Thu Oct 18, 2018 2:43 pm

My slatwing plow I'm trying to restore needs a bunch of plow bolts. My problem is the parts manual for plow chief slatwings don't show or say what size or how many I need. They look like 3/8 but not sure. My local hardware store has plow bolts BUT they are too big 7/16 and 1/2 in. If anyone knows what sizes and a good place to get em I'd appreciate it.

On a side note, found out I have a solid share 12" but the shine is the hardened outside with the soft steel center.

Funny thing is I have spent almost as much on hardware as I did for the plow. Most of the bolts look to be good but some are frozen, others rusted to get he point of possibly breaking or hard to get a wrench on em so I'm replacing all the hardware to be on safe side. Just hard to find a local supplier.

They are round tapered with a square head, kind of like a carriage bolt but the mushroom head is flipped so top is flat.

Actually the local Fastenal has to order them as they don't stock em :( But actually just found out that home Depot sells em 25 box for $17-18. I'll just need to get a box that's the longest length and have either excess or cut em to correct length and clean up the threads.

Have you checked your local Tractor Supply stores? Some of them carry plow parts.

Yep went to TS and they didn't have any sizes, most places I did find plow bolts had 7/16 and larger but none had 3/8 the bolts like I need. And either Home Depot's website lied or 5 employees there don't know $#!+ about how to look up inventory. So guess I'll have to order bolts.

I went out to see what I had for bolts. I don’t have any of the style you need, but I do have 3/8 left hand thread square taper head plow bolts, have no idea what they are for and why they are left hand threads. There are a few right hand threaded ones too.

Doesn’t the cub 22 mower have square headed bolts.

Home Depot's website tells you how many are in stock along with the aisle and bay where they're located. Pick your store from the store locator then pick "shop this store". The info will be on the item detail page, you don't even need an employee.
