GSS-1008 Torque Specifications

Postby Gary Puckett » Sat Sep 29, 2018 7:18 pm

I checked for the torque specifications for the crankcase to clutching housing in the GSS-1008 Manual. It states that the bolts should be 3/8 and 1/2 and gives the torque specifications. In my 59 model, the bolts are 7/16 and fit the holes correctly and the threads screw into the crankcase. Did they change at some point? Thanks

Hi,
I guess you are talking about the 6 bolts that hold the clutch housing onto the engine block.
The 2 top bolts screw into the block, and the other 4 have nuts.

Below is a page from the TC-37A parts manual, printed in 1949, it says on the back cover of it.
The clutch housing is number 1 in the pic. It shows the bolts used for it in the description there.
They are 7/16", it shows the number of them used at the right side of the page.

Thanks Glen, for taking the time to look this up. It is the torque value that I was looking for, but I found a general chart in one of the other manuals.

Hi,
Below is a page from the Cub service manual, GSS-1411, showing torques for bolts.
They have said on here that if a bolt doesn't have a torque listed in the manual, to use the chart.
It is for the bolts IH was using in the 1970's, when the manual was made.
The info at the bottom helps identify the bolts. The bolt heads at the lower right on the page have modern markings on the heads. :)
