Dog Leg Extension Screws

Postby cdadamson » Fri Sep 21, 2018 2:50 pm

I need to re-tap the lower dog leg extension screw holes in the radiator chin. Are they the same screw size as the top? They look like they had a finer thread than the top.

They both should be a 10-24. If you need to drill out broken ones, don't go too deep or you'll be into the coolant.

Here is a recent youtube video of the repair of a dogleg hole, including drilling out a broken screw:

Go back in with brass or stainless when you have renewed threads. The old man did stainless back in the 70’s....keeps paying dividends.

If you don't have the brackets that attach the front of the hood to the tops of the radiator supports, you'll want to add those. There is often a hole in the hood where the spot welds tore out.

Hi,
Below is a listing for the side panel screws, from TM Tractor, you can look at.

http://www.tmtractor.com/new/sp/025fp.htm

This listing below is for the hood brackets. If you need to put them on, they have to be in the right position, so the hood is not touching the radiator, and the space for the grille is not too tall, or too low. There are pics in the listing of them on a hood.
The brackets use 5/16" x 1/2" long bolts, 18 thread, with lock washers, the Cub parts manual says.
The bolts have to be short, the radiator is there.

I'm re drilling and tapping mine today. I drilled out to quarter inch. I like that bigger bolt being there.

I drilled and tapped to fit a quarter inch bolt. Half inch long. You will know when you reach the end of the bolt.
