'62 Hydraulic Unit Leaking
I have a '62 cub with a hydraulic leak. It was running fine until recently when I noticed an oil leak coming from the front of the unit. It appears that the front seal ripped (see photos). Can I replace just this seal/gasket or do I need to do a complete rebuild? If I'm looking at a complete rebuild, how much time will a rebuild take? I"ve never attempted something like this before. I will say it's not leaking into the crankcase. It leaks down the side of the tractor slowly over time.

that is the control shaft, it can just be pulled out the front and then you can replace the oring and boot, not a bad job

Would that require that I pull the gas tank, etc, to get to it?

Hi,
It is sort of common for Touch Controls to leak there, the o ring wears out from use.
Below is a listing from TM Tractor, for a new o ring for the control valve.
There is a pic there showing what the valve looks like. Use plenty of Hy-Tran fluid on the valve when installing the o ring, and when putting the valve into the Touch Control.

You might have to take the Touch Control loose from the clutch housing, and turn it to the left some, to get the valve out.
Below is a listing for the boot, they have leather boots.

Below is the Hydraulic section, if you need other parts.

Below is a page from the Cub owner's manual telling how to fill, and remove the air from the system.
Be sure to do what it says to do in paragraph 4 to remove the air.

They hold 3 1/2 Pints of fluid, that's less than 2 quarts. Case IH dealers sell Hy-Tran fluid.
