Diameter pto pulley for 60" mower?

Postby rick 48 cub » Sun May 20, 2018 8:41 pm

Hi all,
I have been running a 5" (outside diameter) pto pulley on my 1978 Cub to spin a 60" Woods belly mower. Even with freshly sharpened blades in 1st gear speed at max rpm, I am sometimes "pushing" over some grass. I am thinking of going to a 6" pulley to speed up the blades a bit. What are your thoughts?

If I do go with a larger pulley, where is a good place to purchase it?

Thanks!
Rick 1948 cub

Most definitely go to bigger pulley. I'm running a 6½ on my 48 and does pretty good. I have a 7 I'm gonna put on on day.

Woods supplied a 6.45" pulley with that deck (BK67H) which should turn your blades about 23% faster than the 5" pulley.

There are some links to buy the BK67H pulley new in the forum link I posted above. Or you could place an ad in The Vine to see if another forum member has one. The BK67H will give you great results. Just make sure to keep those blades sharp, and the front of the deck slightly lower than the rear. Otherwise the increased load from the larger pulley will have you bogging down in taller/thicker grass.

I installed the larger pulley this morn and immediately mowed 1/2 acre. Cuts much better - even in 2nd gear!

I love it when a plan comes together. The Woods 59 is my choice for a finish mower on a Cub.
