Killefer blade on a cub

I'm fixing to build a killefer blade for my cub but whats got me hung up is how to raise and lower it since there is no external hydraulics. Has anyone done this? My idea at this point is a cable stystem.

On some ATV dragged equipment, they use a mechanical winch (like a boat winch on a trailer) to adjust the implement up or down between road or field position. You do have to dismount to raise or lower the implement.
Another option might be to use an electric winch. This works best if your cub is 12v. Otherwise, a 12v battery would need to be mounted on the equipment and use the winch remote to raise or lower the equipment.

As Smokey said, add a hydraulic remote. It's not difficult to do.

Killefer is a pull type box blade/scraper, though all of the pictures I have seen are too big for a cub, both to pull, and the cylinders are big enough it would take a cub pump forever to lift them, in addition to needing a reservoir.

Actually, Killefer was a west coast implement company. They made a variety of machines. Most I was familiar with were wheel lift controlled by trip ropes. John Deere bought the company in 1937.

I don't know what a Killefer blade might be.

I use a 52" Impact Inplements blade which is also made to be used behind an ATV using a 2" receiver hitch pretty much as described above. I just bought the blade without the fancy lift for the ATV as I figured from the start to use the Cub Touch Control to lift the blade. I just made a cross member to go between the two sides of the Universal Mount Frame and put a 2" hitch receiver on that so the blade would mount to it. The pressure springs on the UMF work to allow it some give if I hit a buried object that won't move. It works great for pushing snow which was mainly what I had in mind for it. I also rigged up a blade angle adjustment using the Cub 193 plow depth adjustment lever to change the blade angle without having to leave the seat. I prefer to use it belly mounted, but it will mount up on the rear with the 3 point hitch I finished a few weeks ago.

After some searches, I found the term "Killefer Blade" currently refers to a tow behind box blade with a set of wheels out back that support it as opposed to lifting with a 3 point or whatever. Many of what I saw were for ATV's and one was an 8 footer. If for no other reason than convenience I would want a hydraulic cylinder on it to adjust the height of the blade as you work, the ATV sized units didn't seem that heavy compared to a regular box blade.

A tumble bug can only slide on the ground. I want something that can roll on wheels or tires, 4ft wide or slightly wider, I do have a mounted blade for my cub but anyone that has used both knows a drag type blade does a better job because it is not affected by the movement of the tractor. I want to be able to smooth out ground and gravel, if I want to carry dirt I have a super m with a pond scoop. The mounted blade has a tendency to break stuff on these old cubs if you hit a big rock, tree roots, etc.

Have you tried mounting your current blade under the middle for grading. It works good on my drive and it's a quarter mile long and has a hill. 2 key things to remember, keep your left foot covering the clutch in case you do hit something, and for final smoothing l drop it down with pressure the "float" it in reverse.

KR makes a grader implement that looks handy to grade drives, ets. Pulla behind ATV, etc. I think it has a 12 volt lift mechanism.

I have done that before and I do like it. Mainly I like the thought of a drag type blade. I got a 13ft for my super m but hard to get around with it. So I wanted to build one for my cub. In all reality I'm probably making something that is unnecessary because I have that 54a BUT I want one lol. Sounds to me like I'll be doing an almost 1st time build project for most folks here.

Just a thought, if you have the rear mounting hardware for a set of cultivators, l can invision mounting a blade or box to the arms. Then you already have the arms for raising and lowering with downward pressure available.
