Later Fast Hitch on an early Cub

Postby T-Mo » Thu May 03, 2018 11:44 am

I have a later fast hitch that I'm going to be putting on my '47 Cub. I have been looking at pictures from the TM site, but they show the early hitch. I have a later one with the hand crank. My question is, where does the depth control hand crank bolt to on the tractor. I have this image here, and I'm not sure where I found it, but it had to be on this site in another thread. Anybody have an image of where it mounts to on an earlier Cub? Thanks.

Two holes on the final. Not the best picture but you can see where.

Thanks, Shane. What's the length of the bolts?

1 1/2" long bolt and use a lock washer.

Also it catches the top hole on the final, and the lower rear hole. Took me a few minutes to figure it out!

I'm working on mounting a late hitch on my '49 now. I can already tell I'm gonna love it when it's done!

If you want to take full advantage of the Fast Hitch, you'll need to change out the hydraulic rockshaft and bearings to the post-55 style. Also, you'll need a helper spring assembly mounted to the xmsn and left fender.

I have the helper spring, and will modify the current rockshaft and add the reinforcement tab to the left fender. The seller that sold me the hitch provided cardboard cutouts of those pieces so I can have them made. Just hadn't done so, yet.....

I'd like to see how you do it. I'm working on getting a spring. I have the right rockshaft but I need to add the reinforcement to the fender.

Thanks

Here is the drawing for the reinforcement tab. I'm still working on the one for the rockshaft modifications.

Hi,
Below is a pic of the position of the reinforcement. That is the original position, as far as I know, I have seen 2, one on a 1955 Cub, one on a 1956 Cub, both were in the same position.
They are welded onto the fender, looks like spot welds originally, I think. :)

Thanks, Glen, for that image. It will be helpful on locating the tab.

One last thing, when installing the fast hitch, it looks like the bail (item 5 or 6 from first image), the fittings (items 3 and 10 first image), and the rockshaft (item 9 second image) has to be installed together since there would be no way to install them separately due to the fittings being mounted to the final drives. The rest of the hitch looks like can be install after those pieces are installed. Correct?

Correct, you have to install the bail and the two brackets on the finals at the same time. There’s no way to get it in if you bolt one side on. Tried it, lol.

:Dito: And it has to go in positioned with the brackets to the final drives pretty much level. Helps to block up the front of the bail too. A helper or some sort of lifting device sure makes things easier to fit into place. BTDT. Lots of opportunity to get fingers pinched so wear gloves and be careful.
