Get over the bumper thing! They were designed for tar top batteries that no longer exist. Also, about half of the tractors running have been converted to 12V., the bumpers would be in the wrong place.

Re: New Battery Box
Just to complicate things a bit more...........I found another version/rev of the Cub battery box cover on eBay that has no rubber bumpers, but three metal standoffs ) long pieces of sheetmetal spotwelded to the underside of the cover in a "Z" shape. Looks like these standoffs sit on 3 edges of the top of the battery. It's yellow, so it's from a late model Cub......but don't have more detail than that. It's not listed in the Parts Manual, but sure looks like it's a real lid for a Cub battery box. Here's the link......let me know what you think!

Re: New Battery Box
If you need a 6volt get the 19l series, fits the the box without the need of the mouse pad.

Re: New Battery Box
I bought a very nice, painted, sturdy...of thick steel as I see it...battery box with top (rubber buttons included) along with tie downs. Perfect it all regards for me. Steiner sold it. I had to sand/grind down one of the rubber bumpers to fit my NAPA 6v battery. Ran a braided grounding strap from battery to frame and it fits in fine. Cub and Driver happy with it all.

Re: New Battery Box
Hi Guys,
I was going to ask this before, but got tied up. Dick just reminded me. In looking around online it appears there may be 3 or 4 different sourced reproduction battery boxes. The one from Steiner looks pretty nice. There's a black one I've seen that looks a little thin, and there are at least 2 others I've run across. Most of you have commented the box made by Norm is the best, and the others are junk. Is that comment based on what's available today.....or from a few years ago? Not trying to start a war on which battery box is best, just trying to find out if you guys have seen, touched, handled any of the newer reproduction boxes. I can only see them in a pic online, which never tells the whole story. I also get that Norm's box is top notch, but once they make a repro of anything the only reason someone else makes another repro of the same part is because the first repro had flaws and the second one attempts to fix them. So I assume (hate to use that word) that some of the most recent repro boxes to hit the market are better than what was out there just a few years ago. But as always.........I could be wrong. So does anyone know how many repro battery boxes are out there now......and are any of them (other than Norms') as good as the original? I ask this not because I have any issues with Norm's box, I just like to be fully aware of all my choices before I buy.
thanks,
bob

Re: New Battery Box
Hi Guys,
Here's pics of that strange battery box lid and side that sold on eBay. Listed as for a Cub. No rubber bumpers, just looks like the metal "z" shaped standoffs catch the corner of the battery to keep it from moving around. I don't see this one listed in the last revision of the Parts Manual......so anybody know what the deal is with this one?
thanks,
bob

Re: New Battery Box
The boxes that are stamped and have solid rounded corners on the lid are usually the good ones. The cheaper, thinner ones are bent, and the lid corner is open where the two sides are bent down to meet. Steiner says their's are 14 gauge and it has the nice top. I think you'd be happy with either Steiner's or Norm's. A lot of them on eBay are the thinner ones as reflected by the price. One of the eBay sellers shows both styles of lids in the same ad. I think it would be safe to guess that a lot of them come from China and are available to multiple vendors. China can make good stuff or cheap stuff depending on what is asked for.

Re: New Battery Box
I bought the Steiner box. You will be very happy with it. It is exactly like the OEM. It has the rubber bumpers. The metal is very heavy with a good weld job on the rear light mount. When my last box got a little rusty, you couldn't touch the rear light at all, for fear of bending the bracket.

Re: New Battery Box
Quick question: my new battery box is two pieces, however I see the availability of a three piece with a removable front. Was this an option or modification?

The three piece design was standard throughout Cub production.

You definitely want the three piece, factory style, box for ease of battery removal.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.
