Cylinder tolerance
I found info that the cylinders should measure 2.625, mine measures 2.632 after honing. Is this within the tolerance level for standard rings?

Re: Cylinder tolerance
Should be within .0016" to .0024" so no, it's not within tolerance. Yon only lack .003" from being .010" over which is the next bore size.

Re: Cylinder tolerance
My micrometer was an el cheapo from HF. Used a friend's good one and my numbers are actually between 2.636 and 2.638. Here's the issue now. The piston look to be stock/standard ones. Is it possible to put over sized rings on standard size pistons? If so that's what someone did.

Yep, she's worn out and needing a rebore. The good thing is once rebuilt will be as good a new. The bad thing is it will cost you a bit to freshen it up. Still, for the investment, if the rest of your tractor is in good shape, you'll get a tractor that to replace it with something similar would cost you thousands more.

I agree. She's seen better days. Not sure how it was even running. Had almost no compression what so ever.

Re: Cylinder tolerance
You need to set the end gap on the rings. I will bet money that the stsndard rings with no end filing will hit just about perfect. I had 0.120 ring end gap on the 65 and about the same bore that you have. New rings with no filing hit right at 0.020 end gap...just a couple thou over spec.
When searching for rings...there are $100 chrome moly sets and $40 standard sets. Its been 5 years on the standard set for me....so far so good...

Re: Cylinder tolerance
Where in the cylinder was this measurement taken? They should be measured near the top, at the middle of the ring travel and at the bottom of the ring travel. Measure front to back and side to side. Your measurement that you posted is already + .010, but I'm guessing that is near the top. It will probably measure closer to standard at the bottom of the bore. It is not possible to set ring gaps to work properly in this situation. If the end gap is set proper at the top (+.010 rings) there will be no gap at the bottom of the bore and that's not good. You need to do a full set of measurements on all four cylinders, then properly assess what you have.

Re: Cylinder tolerance
My bad....i read .002-.003 over. Best to bore and while at it...consider the aluminum piston upgrade....
