Had Cubby & PK out today:

Tractors 2018 015 - Copy.JPG

As I've stated before, Cubby runs fine, but appears to be leaking oil at the front engine seal. Need to fix that pretty quick!

Now a new problem showed up, when I was backing it into the shed, the engine speed suddenly went up, throttle lever has no effect on the speed. Linkage to the governor seems OK, but will not throttle down! Any suggestions?

See if the cotter pin came out of the governor/carb rod at the carb. If that's OK, continue to look for disconnected linkage, from the throttle quadrant, all the way to the carb. Hopefully it will be something simple there, and not the governor, itself.

Washed Cubby & PK up this morning for Saturday's show. Also cleaned the replacement air cleaner & painted the air pipe, will sand & paint the rest of the air cleaner shortly. New exhaust pipe & muffler came this evening!

Hi,
The Cub air cleaners had 2 different lengths of intake pipes over the years.
The Cubs used the longer intake pipe until late 1954 when the under axle exhaust came out. Then they changed to the short pipe.
The LoBoys always used the shorter pipe, I think.

So it you bought an air cleaner from a regular Cub, it could have the long intake pipe.
The short pipe is shown in the LoBoy owner's manual I posted on page 2 of this post, on page 4. You could cut off the long pipe, and make it like the one in the manual pic.

Maybe you knew this already. :)

Removed the "junkyard special" alternator this morning, had to cut some of the knot-head's bracket off where he'd welded it to the bolt that holds the regulator plate:

A new "mini" alternator is on order.

Put the new exhaust & muffler on:

Air cleaner is now installed:

That alt bracket looks like part of the board game “mousetrap”.
We all deal with that kinda thing but that one you have there, wow!
How’s the wiring? The PO assembled a nightmare on mine. I ripped it all out and redid it. I didn’t throw it out though, it’s hanging on my barn wall as a conversation piece.
I’d say your tractor is on its way to looking and running really nice. :hattip:

Wiring isn't too bad, but will get replaced!

It looks like you are missing the fan housing (in the 3rd photo above)...did it come that way?

Hi,
Below are pics from TM Tractor of the Fan Housing, or shroud.
You would have to remove the fan assembly to put the fan housing on. Put the fan assembly in the fan housing, and then slide them in from the right side.
I think Rockfarmer did that on his 1949 Cub that he restored after I suggested it, and I think he said it worked.

http://www.tmtractor.com/tm-tractor/gco ... ng_001.htm

The fan housing is held on with 4 screws, there should be threads in the radiator side supports.

Man, there's a lot going on with that alternator bracket! I like Lt. Mike's analogy of the mouse trap game.

Awesome! I painted some emblems of that style for a Farmall 140. I cleaned them, polished and buffed them, then painted the depressions with red and black paint. I used a toothpick and filled the depressions with droplets of paint until it was done. Turned out really nice.
