PTO Shifter lever repair sought...

Postby Dale Finch » Tue Apr 03, 2018 9:02 pm

I have 4 PTO Shifter levers that have worn/broken pins. One pin had previously been replaced with a section of drill bit, but the weld failed. I am looking for someone who has the ability and equipment to replace the pins, and who would repair all 4, keeping 2 as payment! Any takers? :D

Also, if you photograph the process and post it, I think other folks might benefit from it. I don't have any welding equipment, and no longer have my friend's body shop to work in!! :(

For those members that have worn pins, keep in mind that the slipping in and out of gear with the pto shifter usually doesn't wear the pin down like this, it's usually the worn splines on the end of the trans shaft that causes a continuous driving force to disengage. Sometimes the pto shaft splines are also worn and the sliding clutch hub wiggles adding to wear. Don't forget about the pto pilot bushing worn out too. A perfect pto assembly stays locked in with no reason to wear like that. My .02

On my worn pin I ground the pin off drilled a new hole where the stud was attached and put a nut and bolt same size as the pin in the drilled hole. and it worked fine

Rick, I started to post a similar message, but then realized it was Dale and figured those had come from several different tractors over the years.

That's correct! Each PTO had its own issues. But that IS a good point. Thanks both of you.
