I've seen worse brought back to life. Not sure how long it burned after the pic was taken but it looks like you don't have much choice but to rebuild it, especially being that it was your girl friends grandfathers tractor. I wouldn't hesitate to start in on it, remove the damage, and put it back together a piece at a time.

Yes the wiring is history, the mag is gone, generator is gone gaskets are gone, I fixed the radiator today and cleaned up the head which brings me to my next ? I found out that my pistons are stamped .030 now I’m assuming that means at some point someone had this block bored .030 over is tht a correct assumption?

Probably correct. The rods and mains may have been turned also. Not uncommon for that to happen.

If you're replacing the head gasket please research the proper way to do so. I would also check the head for flatness while it's off. Seal the bolts and torquebin the sequence.

Ok fellas I got her all back together and “running” well it was running I was having trouble with it wanting to stall when under a load. With a timing light it shows that cylinder 1 and 4 was skipping a bit, so I was disking with it and it got under a load and died slowly then wouldn’t start back up pulled plug #1 it had no spark pulled the wire from the coil it has great blue arc, adjusted the points and re timed it, it only has spark some of the time which leads me to believe it’s the old rotor button I trued a new cap same thing so would a rotor button cause this ?

Could be a weak coil or condenser, maybe?? Or bad spark plugs or bad plug wires? Surely some others that have seen this will chime in soon.

Hi,
A rotor probably is not the cause of some spark plugs firing, and some plugs not firing, unless it is really old and burned looking. The contacts in the distributor cap are a more likely cause, they have to be clean and not burned, so the spark will travel through them. But you said it has a new cap.
If the contacts in the cap or the rotor look burned, you can sand them and clean them.
If they are worn from years of use, new ones are better. If it has a magneto, try sanding the burned off if it is still good, the rotor for a magneto is sort of expensive.
Here is a listing at TM Tractor.

http://www.tmtractor.com/new/el/294fp.htm

It could have bad spark plug wires, that electricity won't go through, or bad spark plugs, that have quit and won't fire. I have had that in the past, the plugs look good, they just don't fire anymore.
Test the spark at the cylinders using a known good spark plug. :)

That’s what people don’t understand, it’s not the liquid gas that burns, it’s the vapors and they get embedded in the metal and will explode years after there is no liquid in the tank.
