My complete standard Cub's cast parts are date coded from 1947 to 1950. It's a working tractor, so I don't care about the mismatched cast date codes.

Depending on the type of farming the previous owner(s) did, the tires are more than likely not the ones originally installed at the factory.

I was joking about the tires. I bought this tractor to use and not as a collector piece, so the mismatched numbers don't bother me none. This tractor was cheap enough and close enough.

but now we are all interested in figuring out what year it actually is. The more date codes you can provide us with and the engine serial number will help out. We know at least the guy had a 1957 Cub LoBoy for parts!

Ok I Here is what I found

Right Rear 4*6*T
Left Rear 4*3*T
Torque Tube 8*3*C
Rear Axle 7*23*C
Engine Block 1*15*C
Hydrualic Block 6*21*C

Serial Tag 5576 J

I see no serial number on the Engine block. I looked above the oil filler tube and I see no evidence of it, I assume it should be on the flat spot just below the valve cover. The paint does not look thick.

I think you are on to something, he probably took 2 tractors and made one out of it.

Hope the numbers help, If I left off anything, just say.

Yes it should be on that flat spot. It is a hard area to see, but should be there. Did you mean on rear axle the extended housing side? What about transmission code behind clutch pedal?

The torque tube number was from behind the clutch.

There is no serial number in the block. I sanded it down to bare metal. It was a layer of red then grey. I wonder if someone bought a short block for it. Does anyone know if a short block has a SN?

The paint on this tractor is not thick, I am thinking that at some point someone must has sand blasted it and painted it, There is a lighter shade of red underneath then the darker red that you can see on the front axle, except the engine has grey underneath that I can see looks fresh inside the valve chamber

I've read that replacement blocks/engines did not have SN and the dealer/installer could stamp the block as he saw fit. Never seen it though.

Was the cast code for the engine on the actual block or on the cylinder head? I guess it would be a coincidence if the block was replaced with a replacement block but had the "C" casting code like most of the rest of the parts on the tractor.

A short block with no stamped SN will appear like this:

FYI...those numbers are very lightly stamped there. You might try a very bright flashlight from all different angles. I have one engine that the numbers faded out halfway along...the first few were there, albeit very shallow and thin. Never could get the last few. Just something to try.
