good evening..
thanks aggain. everyone...
i put it all back together...
[didnt make any of those adjustment on the generator.. the removal of the nut and all sounded tricky, etc. so am just hoping and praying that it is basically the same way it has been since i bought it last year [and since whoever pput the afermarket fan hub on back in 2019] it worked for a year and half for me so i am praying i get another couple years before an issue :0) ] we shall see.
thanks..
now on to my next post and question... dealing with tires :0) maybe ill see some of you there...
have a good night.!

scott.

I have a fan belt issue at the moment and I think the issue is the ribbed replacement belt.

The ribbed belt from TM ( napa shows the same ribbed belt) does not sit as deep in the V grove on my fan assembly ( 1975) as the standard V belt. The shroud alignment is off and I can not get the alternator belt on. I ordered a standard V IH-251428-R1 ( the belt on the engine was an IH belt without the ribs) from amazon to see if that makes a difference in alignment.

A worn belt runs lower in the groove than a new one.

Well. I will be curious to know if the next belt affects
The generator alignment. For Yiu. (As you read the chat above. The generator belt alignment was my issue. The prior fan belt was an IH that I removed. And it did not have ribs. Then And put on a replacement. Non IH. But this one does have ribs. So let us know if the next IH one with no ribs impacts your generator alignment ( that would be something if that it was that simple ☺️)

Hi,
I don't think inairam is talking about the forward or rearward alignment of the belts. Not sure though.
I think he is trying to put the belts on the pulleys.

If you want the fan and generator belts to run in line better, you could buy a used original style fan hub and pulley assembly from J P Tractor Salvage, at the bottom of the page, if they have them, and put on the LoBoy.
That would move the pulleys at the fan hub to the rear. My opinion.

Be sure to put oil in it like the operator's manual says. :)

   Hi glen. Ah I see what you mean. As to his issue. Yeh maybe
I’ll look into the salvage one. But maybe I’ll also try. And get through this season first. Before I go tinkering again

Jim what I am saying is this the new OEM rib belt is not a standard V belt and does not have the same cross-section. This is keeping it from going very deep in the V of my pulley efficiently making the rib belt shorter than a standard V belt even though it appears to have the same outside length. This is not a wear issue between old and new. The belt I took off was also an OEM belt but was a standard V belt with no ribs.

TST posted "your fan pulley is bent down more than it is at the top, either the fan hub is worn or the belts are too tight or both," I think I would have to really crank it to not have the fan hit the shroud

It may be there is something different about this batch of ribbed belts. Also the rib belt did not have the same part number as the old 251428-R1 which it would be because of the rib but maybe it is also a little shorter.

I found a new 251428R1 belt in my barn that was the original style V belt without the ribs. That belt with the alternator belt got the adjustment for my one-wire alternator to the middle of the adjustment slot and everything line-up and clear the fan shroud.

I know I have used successfully used ribbed blets in the past. I think there must be something different about the current batch of rib belts, cross-section or net length that makes them effectively shorter in the cub application.
