Stanton,
No one is complaining. Thorough documentation with pics and narative, well worth the wait. And, as I recall, a health hickup along the way. No need for embarrassment on your part.

She's going to be a good looking girl when you get done.
It's great when someone does a real quality job on a complete rebuild like you're doing. With a little TLC it will last another 70 years!

Re: Engine Work - Update
Question for the Experts: The inward parts of the governor don't appear to sit true/flush like they should. Isn't the rim (left side of pic) supposed to sit flush with the housing like the right side?
Here's a close-up of the pin in the housing...
Looks like the pin is smashed at a lower elevation and preventing the rim of the inward governor parts to go all the way down.
Let me know your responses...thanks!

While I'm waiting for the experts to chime in, I went ahead and gave the starter and radiator a fresh coat of black paint. Only had Rust-Stop BBQ Black (hi-temp), so that's what'll be.
Next was to install the new needle bearing and governor shaft oil seal.
Next was installing the new Governor Spring...old one gave up the ghost...
Lastly, I cut out new gaskets for the oil pan and radiator (both come from the same piece of gasket; the radiator from the waste piece inside the oil pan).
Lather, wash, repeat...for the radiator...again, this piece of gasket is the waste piece from inside the oil pan gasket...
Inching closer to completion and first start-up. Exciting!

Re: Engine Work - Update
Hi,
The pictures look good, looks like you are making progress.
I recommend not hammering directly on a new oil seal, it can dent or bend the seal.
Put a piece of thick enough that it won't bend, clean, flat metal over the seal and hammer on that.
Or use a seal driver, or a socket the size of the OD of the seal works also.
I'm not sure if you got the governor spring put on.
I think put the top on first, then use pliers and twist the bottom end to the side just enough so the end of the spring opens more, and will go on over the metal.
You might need to twist the top end of the spring too, to put it on.

I didn’t hammer the oil seal. I did as I described in the caption, I “tap, tap, tapped” it in.

Didn’t do it that way. I put the spring through both holes while the Governor Speed Change Lever was off the shaft, then put it on the shaft. No stress on twisting the spring that way.

Hi,
I see.
My advice about the governor spring is for when the governor is assembled.
I didn't know you put the spring on it the way you said.
Yes, looks easier to put it on like you did it, since the governor was apart.

Re: Engine Work - Update
Got the starter installed.
Next was replacing the pin in the governor housing.
It’s a 1/4” diameter pin. Don’t know how it got damaged or when.
Thanks, tst!

Hi,
Good repair to the governor pin.
Be sure to put the thin insulations in place inside the starter switch, at the sides of the switch.
It can short without the insulations there.
