Re: Can't remove front axle pivot pin
you only need to heat the ends as the pin is not in the bushings in the middle, also you may be able to grease it after heating it as the metal expands while pivoting the axle, 5 minutes of heat can save a gallon of penetrating oil, its the bushings that are stuck to the pin probably

Sometimes Dr. Daniel’s and good night sleep helps the mind solve these problems…..
Whenever I get pissed off from a project I step away and recalculate…..it usually works before I do something stupid or irrational.

Larry you might need that welding set you sold me a few years ago!!

Re: Can't remove front axle pivot pin
another trick I have used if you own a good impact wrench I have welded a nut to the pin and let the impact work it loose

Re: Can't remove front axle pivot pin
Progress! After soaking all night and some spirited rocking of the axle tube I've been able to move the pin back and forth about a half inch. Yesterday it would not move at all so that's encouraging. I've been using Superzilla. That capillary action really works. I used it on the other front axle to remove the axle extensions and with just 2 days of soaking I was able to jack the extensions out of the axle tube when previously they would not move. Once removed you can see the extensions were soaked the full length.

Re: Can't remove front axle pivot pin
Saw this thread and had to comment as this was the hardest thing to remove on my cub. From pic timestamps, it took me hours across four days to remove it. Looked through the forum and folks said they use a brass drift to bang it out. That wasn't happening here.
That pin would not move for anything. Bolts out, spread the clamp ears wide as I dared, eventually not caring if they were going to break. Heat - laid two torches pointing at both sides for 15+ minutes. Sledge hammer on a 1/2" socket extension. PB blaster, Impact hammer. Got it to move out maybe 1/4" then I tried banging it the other way. Started mushrooming so I ground that down and tried going back and forth. Nothin doin.
Then I took the whole shootin' match over to the press just to hold it in place while I used a LOT of leverage to get some movement. Set up a contraption to hold the extension/driving pin so I could smash it with a 16lb sledge.
FINALLY that SOB came out. Sheesh, that was tough. A distant second was getting the pedal shaft out. But that was light and I could have my way with it.
Contrast that with yesterday, when I removed the pin from a different cub. Popped. Right. Out.
Right.
Out.
Felt like crying.

Those bolts look like they still have some life left in them; maybe a day or two...
