Re: Hydraulic Pump Drive Gear Washer
The one currently on the pump has been bent back and forth enough that the metal is starting to tear at the seam where it's been bent. Some small fragments have broken off. This one is in need of replacement. Didn't mean to ignore the suggestion of using a star washer. Just wanting to use one with a tab as 1st choice.

Re: Hydraulic Pump Drive Gear Washer
Here is the link to the Mcmaster-Carr washers. It states "Their partial cone shape gives these washers spring-like flexibility, so they distribute force and grip tighter than split and tooth lock washers." I don't know if they are reusable. I also notice the tab is located different from the one from TM.

http://www.tmtractor.com/new/hy/562fp.htm
Than there is this photo from TM (that I assume is an original) that is different than both. I don't know if it matters which direction the cone is facing.

With 6 sides on a hex nut, you can fold fresh side of a new washer 6 times

You would want to put it as viewed in the pic with the concave side facing the nut!

Re: Hydraulic Pump Drive Gear Washer
I'm not sure the photos in the TM link are correct for the part. It says it's an original Case/IH part but why would it be painted for this application?

If the one from Mcmaster- Carr works, I'll not be concerned if they are reusable at $6.50 for a packet of 5ea.

Re: Hydraulic Pump Drive Gear Washer
From what I can see, the ones at McMaster Carr have the lock tab on the outside diameter, and none on the inside diameter, unless Indy linked to a different item than old farm kid ordered. If that is the case, they are not what you need.

This is the style that will work. I hope he ordered this one from McMaster Carr

You know Gary, I kept toggling back and forth with those pictures and thought there was a difference, but just didn't see it. Thanks for pointing that out.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: Hydraulic Pump Drive Gear Washer
I bought the concave one on the left thinking it would be easier to get under and bend against the nut. Then my plan was to just bend the current tab in line with the rest of the washer and make my own tab as shown in the red, right, illustration. In my way of thinking I have five chances to get it correct for $6.50, instead of close to $50.00 after shipping is added for the one on the right. My other option may be to just reuse the old one with locktite and a star washer, then call it good.

Re: Hydraulic Pump Drive Gear Washer
I wonder if not being concave will keep the tab from reaching down into the slot?
It almost looks like the tab's POSITION in the side by side photo is the same. Seems it wouldn't matter what direction the tab came from, just where it poked down.

Re: Hydraulic Pump Drive Gear Washer
Your right Dale, like your line of thinking, keep it simple. The washers were shipped just two hours away from me in Atlanta GA. Hope to have them soon. But then again they might get shipped two states away before they come back towards me.

Yes, that is too high. Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the tab does not bend against the nut. I thout the tab is on the inside and slides into a notch next to the shaft.

The tab fits into the keyway slot.
