Throttle linkage pin, what’s it called?

Postby MikeEyre74 » Wed May 15, 2019 5:25 pm

Well, some idiot was working on my carburetor in the garage this afternoon and managed to lose the pin that connects the throttle linkage to the governor arm on the carburetor side. You know, the little pin that goes through The carb linkage on the front end of the tractor, the one that you could spin around on the threaded rod to adjust the Lanks? It has a tiny little cotter pin that goes through it to hold it in place… The idiot mentioned above didn’t put the cotter pin in and the pin worked it’s way loose and fell out somewhere in the yard. I can’t seem to locate this damn thing in a Google search, so I figure I am searching for the wrong name or whatever. Where can I get one?

Clevis pin. Get one at the hardware store.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Well, I’d say that depends on your hardware store. I’ve never found one locally that has one that diameter and length. Find plenty that are right diameter that have to be cut to length.

Cut a bolt, drill a hole and use a new cotter pin.

No trip to the hardware store needed. :D

An appropriate diameter nail will work too, but may rust since it is not zinc plated. If you have a local farm and fleet they should have assorted diameter clevis pins as well.

I've had them with a bolt and 2 nuts to lock each other so it could be free. Could also use a bolt with a locknut if no pin is readily available.

This is from Messick's website showing the size. 1 pin is $4.96

3 CLEVIS PIN,3/16" x .580" - PIN, 3/16 x 19/32 rod end, governor connecting rod clevis 103493
3.1 PIN - replaces #103493 86596057 $4.96 3-7 business days 1 to equal #103493

You can buy a pack of 25 from McMaster Carr for $6.80 but who needs 25?

It would be cheaper to go to a local hardware store like Bill said.

At that price, I always buy 25. Those little buggers come in handy for other projects as well. :D

Ever notice how "selection" and "assortment" mean "we included every size except the one you need"?
