Two L-F194 plows refurbished

Postby Slim140 » Fri Feb 23, 2018 8:51 am

We have two L-F194 plows with the older Plow Chief bottoms non replaceable shin. 1 of them I acquired in a package deal and sold part of the package to pay for the deal so basically have nothing in the plow although most of the wear parts are worn out so there goes free. The second one is like new and I'll have to dig it out and take pictures of it after painting it a few years ago.

Here's the first one as we got it, as you can tell the mold board is wore out & also the share. Someone has welded on the tip of the point and I'll get a new one or 2 from Agri-Supply and get a share from Case-IH.

Started painting on #1 last week and here's it's current state. Had the frog sandblasted and primed at the powdercoater.

The FH point has a "C" stamped in the very end of it where it goes into the FH although it's got the part # and Cub on the beam where it should. Wonder what the "C" is for? I'm not sure if #2 has that C or not, will check when I dig it out.

Found a new moldboard (only one I could find) from Crescent Forge although they seem to be out of business. Got to paint it blue on the backside now. Here's pictures of the new one and the very thin old one. You can see a tiny piece of the steel tag on the old one under one of the bolts.

Nice! You wouldn’t happen to have a list of bolts needed for this restoration, would you? I have one I’m planning on restoring

Here's some pictures of the other one as we got it. It doesn't look like it's been in the ground much with all original IH parts on it even though someone painted it all red at some point in it's life.

You may wonder why we need 2 plows and why I'm fixing the worn out one, well our son is soon to be 6 and it won't be to many years he'll be driving one of the Cubs wanting to do what daddy's doing and if you have 2 Cubs and 2 people you need 2 plows is my thinking :D Plus my wife may want to plow one day.
Can someone tell me where I can find original decals for these early ones?

Shane,
Here's a post of mine from 2010.

Describes what I did to use the AgriSupply point.

Check with ploworx. I think they bought some of the old Crescent tooling. Their Facebook page has more stuff on it than the website, but I believe they're making spearhead points for the plowchief bottom.

I believe the C is for Canton for the Foundry that made them.

Dug the other plow out of the building yesterday, as you can tell it got put up and hasn't been touched in a couple years. I forgot it has square nuts on every bolt.

I noticed on both these spear points they are both IH, one has a plow bolt in it and the other one is threaded. I guess they changed these later on to make them easier to get off when the head of the bolt wore?
