SMV Sign Mount

Postby J3 Driver » Thu Aug 10, 2017 8:09 pm

So my son and I occasionally take his tractor for trips around the block (2.2 miles) and we thought it would be a good idea to have an SMV sign on the back.

I wanted something that wouldn’t be n he way and didn’t interfere with the originality. I came up with this. Two bolts and it’s back to original.

Nice!
I have and old fire extinguisher bracket on my right rear fender. I just used channel material and screwed to it. I like yours though too.
I have also just hung mine by wire from the rear equipment arm.
Why is there never enough time to do the job right, but always enough time to do it over. :?:

I have been thinking about adding the SMV sign also. Here are a few threads I found in my research:

I like that bracket. I struggled for awhile on where to mount mine. I ended up running a piece of all thread through some black pipe, bolted it to the drawbar and zip tied the sign to it. It works ok for the material I had on hand, but I would like it higher and more in line of sight with drivers behind me.

I drilled my seat frame at the left rear and then single bolted just the bracket. I use what dad called a squirrel pin to lock it on. Its tucked in nice and close and is out of the way.

There are two holes in the rear half of the left fender. They are at a slight angle. But my dad used these to put up a SMV sign on his tractor. Just bolted a piece of 1" angle iron which he was able to bend to the vertical because he was a welder. I wish I had a picture. Very simple. Angle iron went strait up to the top of the triangle. Remove two bolts in the fender and it's back to original. You could use some rubber washers between the angle iron and the fender and it won't even be scratched.

Sorry, :lost: telling us what dad called it isn't much help when it's not a common term (at least for me anyway). How about a picture or description please? Never heard that term before and curious if it's something special or just a regional name for a pin that is more commonly known by a different name.

Jeff, it is a regional thing from what I can figure out.

It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.

Sorry to leave you guys hanging...but barnyard bailed me out. Thanks barnyard... You can bend one out of any piece of wire. I use one for my torch striker and any place i need to make sure a small item needs to stay at home.
