Using a Cub as a Lawn sprayer

Was just wondering is it possible to hook up a sprayer to the Cub to spray a lawn. If so how do you go about doing it. Just trying to think of other uses for it.

Couple of options.

12 volt pressure sprayer. I have a 15 gallon tank, 8 foot boom, that mounts on a carry all platform. Probably the least expensive option. Replace the boom and install the hand held sprayer. The hand held sprayer shoots out about 20 feet, great for brush.

Neighbor has a B Farmall, PTO powered pump, 55 gallon drum for herbicide tank mounted on rear of tractor, used to spray weeds.

Edit. Depends on how large of a lawn you have and what you are trying accomplish. I use 1 and 2 gallon hand pump up sprayers to spot spray. Sprayers set on the Cub's platform between my knees.

Another edit. Just checked the price for Fimco sprayer and boom. The boom currently costs as much as I paid for the sprayer and boom 15 or 20 years ago.

12 volt booster batteries for jump starting a vehicle will work.

I have a 3.5 acre lawn. Still have a couple old farm buildings on it. The issue is my cub is 6V so would need to add a 12V battery to run the sprayer, but that shouldn't be to hard.

get 12 volt battery and just recharge it. the are dc step up transformers, used for making a 12 v negative ground circuit in a 6 v positive ground car, but that you may be limited on amps for a sprayer pump.

I think a used battery off craiglist is OK for this or a deep cycle marine if you want to do it up. northern tool or tractor supply have sprayers that clip to the battery

Yes, but why bother. You will need some method of mounting the alternator and the correct sized pulleys, plus a belt.

You would probably be better off using your Cub's PTO to power a small generator set. You should be able to power a 3.5 KW gen set. If you judicially use the available electricity, 3.5 KW will power most household appliances, except for the electric range.

We powered son's house for 2 weeks with a 4KW gen set and another time for 5 or so days.

Edit: Check with your near by farm and ranch supply firms for sprayers. Orschlens also has the sprayers and booms.

Shawn, this is my setup for spot spraying. The pump doesn't draw a lot of juice I just put the battery back on a trickle charger when I am finished. The sprayer belongs to a friend and I just borrow it as needed. I use the carryall platform because it is handy. No reason you couldn't build a similar platform for a standard cub or use a trailer for that matter. You could also use a small boom sprayer if you wanted to spray the entire yard.

I use a pto driven ag roller pump, a 55 gal plastic drum and a boom fabbed from bed rail angle. Bought the nozzles at a farm supply store and a few lengths of 3/8 inch hose completes the setup. Just remember to wash out your rig, especially the pump when finished and store it with some light oil in it or it will lock up.
EDIT: Lacking a suitable connection to the cub pto, a length of reinforced hose like radiator hose with hose clamps will work since there is little resistance to the pumping action.

I leapfrog a battery around for auxiliary 12 V power.
Have a 35000 genny too.
Running a 12V alternator could charge aux battery in the field and run an inverter or converter for other things besides a shur-flo or other pump.
Aux. lighting is my biggest interest but ...really ,using the p.t.o. as a way to run one or more alternators as a power plant is just seems interesting.

Probably better results than one I mounted on a snow blower years ago.

That and I am considering a sprayer next year to allow less harrowing and the aux. battery is a pain to sling around on the remote site I work.
More crap in and out of the truck with limited balance...

Some small 120 volt generator sets, 1500 to 2000 watts, have a 12 volt outlet for charging batteries.

Currently investigating the purchase of one small enough for me to throw into the trailer or pickup. Weight range 56 lbs and up. Price range $89- and up.

You have seen this setup before. I fabricated a custom carrier just to fit my 12 volt 15 gal spot sprayer. The pump is attached to my regular 12 volt battery. This is used primarily to spray fence rows. Works great for that.

I don't have a pic but I have a 55 gal drum mounted on a 3 point hitch on my Ford 3000 for spraying hay fields and pastures. I used a boom setup for years that covered around 20'. The boom was a pain because of trying to keep the 11 spray nozzles clear. I was always running into fences, trees and any other objects. So, on the advice of a buddy of mine who had one, I removed the booms and converted to a "Single Nozzle" setup. Now I only have one spray head to keep working. I can go through gates without crashing a boom, which makes moving from field to field much easier.
The nozzle costs around $40 with just a few dollars more for pipe and plumbing fittings. Makes spraying a larger area much easier. It covers about the same as the boom heads did.

Disclaimer: Don't know if a 12 volt pump has enough force to run a single nozzle. My 55 gal rig has a pto pump that I set for 40 psi.

Years ago, when I had a much larger lawn, I used a 55 gallon drum, 10' boom, a Hypro roller pump (use series 4001 (max. RPM 1800) or series 4101 (max PRM 2600)) and the Cub now in my garage to build a dandy lawn sprayer. Once calibrated (with plain water) it worked flawlessly. Had plenty of capacity to keep the pesticide agitated in the tank and keep the boom supplied with material. Left it with Dad and Mom when I moved away in '92 and never saw it again.
