sea foam

Postby iosco cub » Mon Jun 26, 2017 9:06 am

I have been adding sea foam to the fuel for my 55 to clear up a slight smoking issue and it seems to have worked, It is barely noticeable now. I would like to add some to the oil before the next oil change. my question is can you put too much in and how long should you run it before the oil is drained? Thanks Greg

Add to the oil IAW the instructions on the can. Leave it in until the next scheduled oil change.

I dunno. My experience is the seafoam in the oil does not do much good, and only serves to thin the oil and cause low oil pressure until you change the oil out again.

Best results for me is to spray it directly into the intake while the engine is running.

I squirt it in the spark plug holes and let it sit overnight so it works done onto the rings. I also add it to the oil. I am not a big fan of the "Nitro injection" method of seafoam. It needs time to work and putting it in intake does not give it much time. At least in the gas tank it is cleaning the fuel system.

I like putting it directly into cylinders too. 1/4 of a cup in each and let it soak down through. The longer the better for soaking , a week if possible. Before I put it in I try to get all 4 pistons in the middle of the cylinders, then once the sea foam is in you can carefully rock engine back and forth with fan to help it work in around the rings. I actually change my oil and filter and add a half can or so to oil. Run the engine fairly hard for a few hours then change oil and filter again. Reason being it will free up a lot of slide and carbon in there and you'll want to flush it out. Just my opinion. Good luck :tractor:

I add half a can to the gas tank and half a can to the crankcase oil. Then mow with it.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.
