Touch Control block rebuild

Postby Rjpoog1989 » Mon May 22, 2017 3:04 pm

:help:

So chalk my rebuild up as a failure...

Got a kit from Steiner and followed their YouTube video. I must have put something together wrong though. With tractor running and lever forward it moves forward. But then with the lever back toward the driver it does nothing. It can however be forced backwards. I'm not really sure how to proceed.

The number on my block is 351981R1.

Would it hurt anything to mow grass with the tractor as is, or not? Really need to mow and my other method of mowing takes hours longer...

Go thru the How to forum on TC rebuilding and see if you can identify something you did wrong...The how to's are IMHO the best source for vital information for doing just about anything Cub related...You can ask questions about the project you're working on in reference to what is read on the How to thru the forum..Did you contact Steiners and ask them where your problem lies ...Perhaps they can be of assistance as well...They probably would refer you here but its worth a try I suppose...
In so far as mowing, its hard to say not knowing what the problem is...If your TC doesn't operate correctly I would think trying to use it mowing isn't the best idea...I'd fix it first.....Dave

Hi,
Did you fill the block up to the filler hole with fluid the 1st time you filled it, that is what the Cub owner's manual says to do.
Some of the guys have said they have trouble with air locks, and have loosened the tubes at the pump, then carefully separate the tubes from the pump slightly, until fluid runs out, then put it together again and try running it.
Here is the owner's manual page telling how to fill it and get the air out of the system, be sure to do what it says in paragraph 4, if the arms will move.

I filled it up to the filler plug my first go.

I've been looking through the how to's on here. It looks like only 1 still has pictures. I was just hoping maybe someone well versed in how this this actually works would know which valve I installed wrong. I'm not sure what items control what actions.

I've fixed a couple but its hard for me to diagnose it with my limited experience...Is the control valve binding perhaps...that sounds doubtful but does the actuating lever move freely when the tractor is not running...Personally I've never had one with the air problem Glenn speaks of but its worth a try...What was wrong with the TC in the first place..Did it have the same problem...Or was it just leaking...Is it pressure thats holding you back from moving the lever back...Can you feel that or is it mechanical...With my limited experience I would tear it down and put it back together again from the instructions on the How To ...You'll probably discover the problem ...BTW a lot of the time if your fixing a leaking Tc , just putting the seal in the control valve and a new bottom gasket will remedy the situation...You can also check the screen when you do that...I fixed a couple of leakers doing just that...Maybe someone with more total rebuild experience will chime in..BTW you did bleed it correct..Just leave the plug out and move the lever back and forth a half dozen times if it will move.....Dave

It was semi-funtioning before rebuild. It leaked a lot and air was getting in it, but it did move back and forth. The control valve doesn't seem to be binding, and moves back and forth easily. I'll try bleeding it again later and do what glen suggested about loosening the screws by the pump. If none of that works I'll tear it apart again and see if I put something in backwards.

If you replaced the O ring on the control valve, you may have a leak in the very near future.

If so, TM carries the correct size O ring.

It's all good lol
I'm not sure if I've fixed the hydrolics because the motor won't run anymore... I don't want to tear apart the touch control again till I test the little things y'all mentioned.
