Exposed flywheel?
Should there be a cover over the flywheel under the bottom of the tractor? I noticed it yesterday when I was looking the Cub over. Seems like it is exposed to an awful lot of dirt and foreign objects.

If you're referring to the area at the rear of the oil pan, yes there should be a sheet metal cover there.

It's not there. I'll be that will be a tricky part to find.

Re: Exposed flywheel?
My Cubbie didn't have one when I bought it, but it was easy to find a replacement on eBay.

Re: Exposed flywheel?
I wound up getting three covers off ebay (package deal with inspection hole cover as well) so if someone finds themselves in need of one let me know. Should I flush that cavity before installing the cover and if so, with what?

I wouldn't flush out the bottom front end of the torque tube.Posco wrote:Should I flush that cavity before installing the cover and if so, with what?
Take something flat that will fit between the flywheel and torque tube and scrape out any debris. You might find gear oil ponded behind the debris, let drain out before installing the cover. You might take a grease rag, perhaps on a paint stirrer and wipe up as much oil as you can.
Next time you split the tractor would be a good time to clean out the entire torque tube.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: Exposed flywheel?
I bought the tractor from a guy who ran a small dairy farm and it was his wife's toy for the duration of that ownership. Probably exposed to more dust and dirt than weeds. Neither good. The holes for the plate to bolt through were only discernible after having the plate in hand and putting it in place to see where they might land. The cover came with good, usable bolts so that helped.
I wasn't aware of one cover much less two. Top/bottom, front/rear?
I picked up a gas tank/hood that was excellent shape and I'm rehabbing that. Better shape than the one on the tractor right now. Sandblasted and primed as are the lights but corrosion had eaten away where the water could lay inside the bands that hold the lens to the shell. Very rewarding and a lot of fun but there just isn't enough time.
